Close Basket Ball Game From Georgetown By Score of 16 to 15
Wilson, of Local Team, Made a Star Play by Throwing Field Goal. Georgetown Men Are Disappointed
The sore of yesterday's game of basket ball between Georgetown College and State College at the State College gymnasium was 16 to 15 in favor of State. The whole game was closely contested. At the end of the first half the score was 6 to 5 in favor of the Georgetown team. Toward the end of the last half Harry Herrick, Georgetown's captain, pitched goal on a foul made by State College. The referee, Carmack, who is a Georgetown man, did not see this and Herrick tried again to pitch goal but failed. The State College men believed that this goal ought not to be counted; while the adherents of Georgetown contended that their team ought not to be made to suffer from the failure of the referee to see this play. It was finally decided to not count, after much discussion, and State College was given the decision by a score of 16 to 15.
The star play of the game was a field goal by Wilson, of State College. State made six field goals and four foul goals out of a possible ten. Georgetown made five field goals and either five or six foul goals out of a possible twelve.
Coach Hinton and about twenty-five rooters came over from Georgetown to witness the game and cheer on the Georgetown team. The next game of this series will be played at Georgetown, February 21.

Georgetown Claims Score Is a Tie at End of the Second Half
In a game replete with good plays and frequently interspersed with arguments State College succeeded in defeating the Georgetown College basket ball team yesterday afternoon in the first intercollegiate game of the season by a score of 16 to 15. Although the score was, in the opinion of those attending the game, in favor of the Cadets, Carmack, the referee, decided that the score was a tie. He changed his decision so many times before he left the floor that no one knew what the final result of the game was and as a result of this it hangs in the balance.
This mixed state of affairs was brought about principally by a protested decision in the latter part of the game. Barbee, one of the Cadets guards, in passing the ball had stepped outside the boundaries and a foul was called on him by Carmack. Captain Wilson of the State College team protested this decision and Carmack proceeded to explain his reason for calling the foul.
While doing this Herring of the Georgetown team threw a goal as a result of the foul, but it was not allowed as Carmack had not seen him when he made the successful try for the basket.
He was brought back and given another try at the goal in which he failed. Both scorers, however, were under the impression that he was simply being given another try on account of a double foul and for this reason both counted the point for Georgetown.
Nothing more was thought of the matter until the end of the game each scorer announced that the game was a tie. Then the question of whether the point should have been allowed was brought up by the adherents of the Blue and White and as a result another lengthy squabble arose which ended in a very mixed state of affairs.
The game was very close, the first half ending 6 to 5 in favor of the visitors and in the following half each team was alternately in the lead. State College, however, played the better game and their passing at times was of a very superior order. Georgetown, too, passed the ball well and played the game hard at all times. For the Blue and White Captain Wilson and Barbee were the stars, both playing a steady game, while Herring was the bright particular spot on the Black and Gold. Herring, however, has been in the game for the past four years and knows it thoroughly.
Under the rules of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Association and also according to the Spaulding Athletic Rules there can be no tie game in basket ball as both teams shall play on at the end of a game should the score be a tie until either one or the other of the two contesting fives shall have scored two points. At the end of the second half the Georgetown team without waiting for the decision of the referee, walked off the field claiming that the game was a tie and by this action alone forfeited the game.
When seen last night Prof. Mustaine, the gymnasium instructor at State College, said that if State did not win the two remaining games scheduled with the Gold and Black that he would contest the decision of the referee before the Kentucky Athletic Association Board as he thought the Cadets were the winners. The Georgetown team left the city last night still claiming that the game was a tie.
