Trouncing the Tigers:
7th ranked Kentucky cruised to a 97-47 victory over the Tennessee State Tigers in Rupp Arena to end a 2 game losing streak. A total of 12 Wildcats saw action and scored (Todd Tackett did not play because of a left thigh injury suffered the day before in practice).
The Cats broke out to an early 10-4 lead, but TSU kept it close and narrowed the margin to 10-9. Later, with the score standing at 17-13 Kentucky, the Cats exploded with a scoring outburst with 5 minutes remaining in the 1st half to make it 32-13. UK held an easy 41-20 halftime lead. Tennessee State was held to 29% FG shooting in the opening period. In the 2nd half, Kentucky's lead grew to 60-29, and the ongoing 16-0 scoring run made it 67-31 minutes later. It was 84-44 with 4 minutes left, and Desmond Allison scored 9 pts in the final 6 minutes.
Kentucky shot a phenomenal 74% from the floor in the 2nd half. Jamaal Magloire's 15 pts tied his career scoring record, and Desmond Allison's 9 pts also tied his career mark. Wayne Turner's single steal in the game put him at 202 for his career, the all-time steal leader at Kentucky. The 50 pt victory margin was the largest of the season for the Cats, and the largest for Kentucky since a 105-51 defeat of UNC-Asheville in 1996.
