Obituary - Doc Lavin Succumbs, Lexington Herald (January 15, 1974)
Lavin was in Hot Springs in preparation for the opening of the 1974 racing meet at Oaklawn Park, where he had served as racing secretary for the past 16 years.
Lavin, a native of Paris, Ky, who made his home in Louisville, had been associated with the Hot Springs track in one capacity or another for the past 23 years.
He was admitted to the hospital early Monday after feeling some discomfort during the night.
Lavin was also racing secretary at Churchill Downs, a position he has held since 1956.
Lavin attended the University of Kentucky, where he played on Coach Adolph Rupp's basketball squad of 1930 and 1931.
Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Margaret and St. Mary Catholic Church of Louisville.
