Obituary - Joseph Dishman, who opened Tri-City Olds, dies, Louisville Courier-Journal (March 22, 1993)
A native of Henderson, Dishman started Tri-City Oldsmobile on Broadway in 1937, having gained experience serving as sales manager for the local Studebaker dealership Breaux Ballard Co.
Tri-City Olds, on Broadway for 26 years, is now off Breckenridge lane near the Watterson Expressway.
Dishman attended the University of Kentucky, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams simultaneously, and then studied at Westminster College in Pennsylvania.
Dishman served as president of the Kentucky Automobile Association, a position he was first elected to in 1947. He also was a president of the Greater Louisville Automobile Association and served on the board of directors of the National Automobile Association.
In the 1950s, Dishman was elected president of the Better Business Bureau of Louisville.
Dishman was a former director of Liberty National Bank, former chairman of the board of Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children, former trustee of the Independent College Foundation and a University of Kentucky Fellow.
He was also a former member of the Pendennis Club, Louisville Country Club and Delray Dune Golf and Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla., Filson Club and Society of Colonial Wars of Kentucky.
His survivors include: a son, Charles H. Dishman III; a sister, Nell Hodge Dishman; a brother, Frederick Dishman; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. tomorrow at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. today.
The family asks that memorial gifts go to Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children or to charity.
