Billy Ray Cassady, 62, of Inez, died Wednesday, November 26, 1997, at the Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born in Inez, the son of the late Robert and Rachel Spears Cassady, on June 11,1935. Billy Ray was a member and star player on the 1954 Inez High School Kentucky State High School championship team and later played on the University of Kentucky's 1958 national championship, team, coached by Adolph Rupp. He was retired from the Wolf Creek Colleries Coal Co., following a kidney transplant. He was a member of the Inez Masonic Lodge, the Golden Memorial Methodist Church; and a member of the University of Kentucky Basketball Alumni. Survivors include his wife, Donna Sue Callaham Cassady; two sons, William M. Cassady and Carlos R. Cassady, both of Inez; and three grandsons. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 29, in Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, with Rev. Eric Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Saltwell Cemetery in Inez.
