Tut Melman, Officiated College Basketball, 86
Tut H.K. Melman, a former college basketball referee, died yesterday in Shadyside Hospital of emphysema. He was 86.
Mr. Melman refereed at colleges throughout Western Pennsylvania. He was a co-founder of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, which recognizes outstanding athletes in basketball and football.
He was a former president of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.
Mr. Melman owned and operated Tut Melman Associates Insurance Agency.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Melman; two daughters, Betsy M. Carney of Philadelphia and Lynne V. Flake of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Morris of Pittsburgh and Meyer of Orlando, Fla.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m., at Ralph Schugar Chapel, 5509 Centre Ave., Shadyside. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.
