F.L. Melton Dies; Was Owner of Insurance Firm
F.L. (Pete) Melton, 54, of 2583 Kimmeridge Drive, East Point, an insurance broker and former basketball official in the Southeastern Conference died Sunday in an Atlanta hospital after a heart attack.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Melton was an SEC official in the early days of the conference. At the time of his death he owned the Melton Insurance Agency in Atlanta.
He was a member of the Winder Methodist Church, the Yaarab Temple, the Morningside Lodge 295, F&A.M. and the Atlanta Masonic Club. He belonged to the Atlanta Association of Insurance Agents, the Georgia Association of Insurance Agents, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Optimist Club, the East Point-Cascade Elks Lode, and the American Legion Post No. 1.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hemperley's chapel with the Rev. C. Douglas Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Wooten of East Point.
