KALAMAZOO (UPI) - Former Cleveland Indians second baseman Fred Spurgeon died in Bronson Hospital Thursday after a long illness.
Spurgeon was with the Indians from 1924 through 1927 before a broken arm, incurred in an accident , cut short his career as a big league ballplayer.
He was a native of Kalamazoo and was a star baseball and football player at Kalamazoo Central High School and Kalamazoo College before he turned pro.
