DEFEATS K.U. AT BASKET BALL BY CLOSE MARGIN

For the first time this season the basket ball teams representing Kentucky University and Kentucky State College played a game of basket ball in the State College gymnasium Friday night at 8 o'clock. The State College team won by a narrow margin, the score at the end of the game being 30 to 29 in favor of the State College team.

A very good crowd witnessed the game and cheered enthusiastically as each point was made. It seemed at the first of the game as if the State College team would have a walkover, for Coons, playing at center for State, knocked the ball the first time into Kelly's hand, who without further pass, threw a goal giving S.C. a lead of two points. This was soon followed up by the Cadets piling up 10 scores and K.U. had not yet thrown a basket. K.U. at this juncture took a brace and began to climb slowly and at the end of the first half the game stood 22 to 17 in favor of State College.

At the beginning of the second half K.U. did to State exactly as State did to her at the beginning of the first half. K.U. soon piled her score up to 25 before State scored and then the rest of the game was a fight to the finish, very fast and interesting. When the whistle blew announcing that the game was over, State was in the lead by a score of 30 to 28. Barger then threw a goal on account of a foul adding one more point to K.U.'s score. Mr. Branson, who played guard for State, suffered his thumb joint to be dislocated and had to retire, during the second half Kemper taking his place.

The State College team showed quite an improvement in team work and goal throwing since their last game, and clearly show they are in the race for the intercollegiate championship. Too much cannot be said in praise of the work of the K.U. boys for during the second half they certainly played ball.

Coons did the best playing for the Cadets, making 14 points of the 30 that were obtained. Waters played a star game, showing remarkable speed. Wallace played best ball for K.U., making 12 points out of the 29 scored. Barger also played good ball, scoring 11 points.

State plays her next game with Georgetown College on the afternoon of February 10 at Georgetown, just before the intercollegiate declamatory contest.

CRIMSONS DEFEATED

One Point Measured S.C. Victory in Annual Basket Ball Game.

After two of the hardest fought halves ever seen in a basket ball game in Lexington, the State College team defeated the Crimson five in the K.S.C. gymnasium last night by the score of 30 to 29.

This is probably the closest score ever tallied in this city. Two minutes before the time whistle was blown, the score stood at 28 to 28, and after this both teams scored, the Cadets' point counting just double that made by the Crimsons.

Runaway in First Half

The game opened with State playing all of the game and before K.U. could basket a single ball, the Cadets were counting nine.

A few number of fouls were called, but this is probably due to the fact that the officials represented the two opposing sides. At the end of the first half State College was 22 to 17. K.U. started the second with a number of counts and by the time the latter part of the last half was called, the score was 28 to 28. K.U. pitched a foul goal, while the Cadets made theirs from a scrimmage.
