Joseph George Hermann was born April 13, 1886 to Joseph Strobel Hermann and Caroline (Carrie) Blesch of Newport Kentucky. He was the seventh born of nine children. Two of whom died in childhood.
He married Beatrice Bluebell Bayland in1914. They had two children. Bettina Joyce who had 4 children and Edward Robert who had seven children.
In his political life he served two separate terms as mayor of Newport Kentucky. The first 1916-1920 and the second 1936-1940. Between terms he often served as commissioner. His career was in civil engineering. He lived his entire life in Newport Kentucky.
