Obituary - Darrell Darby, Hall-of-Famer Taken by Death, Ashland Daily Independent (July 4, 1964)
Mr. Darby, a resident of Williamson for 25 years, was born in Ashland, May 4, 1910, a son of the late Lawrence and Bertha Lewis Darby.
An Ashland High School graduate, he starred in basketball and football, being named All-State in both sports. He was a member of the 1923 [sic, actually 1928] Tomcats basketball team which won the national championship. He also played football and basketball while attending University of Kentucky. He served with the Seabees in World War II.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Virginia Reinhard Darby, and one brother, Ken Darby, with the U.S. Army in Germany. Also surviving is an uncle, Hi Lewis of Ashland.
Funeral services will be conducted in Williamson with burial, in Ashland. The time is indefinite pending the arrival of the brother from Germany.
