Newell C. Day Dies; Ex-Insurance Agent
Newell C. Day, 71, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Davenport, a former agent of the Equitable Life Insurance Co. of Iowa, died today in his home.
Mr. Day was employed for 44 years with Equitable of Iowa as an agency manager. He was often referred to as "Iowa's Mr. Insurance."
In 1958 Mr. Day won the company's highest honor, the Master Agency Builder award. He is the donor of the "Man of the Year" award, given annually to Iowa's most outstanding life underwriter.
Services and burial for Mr. Day will be in St. Petersburg. Memorials made be made to St. John United Methodist Church. Davenport or the American Heart Fund.
Mr. Day was born in Gilead, Ind. He married Beatrice Hurlock Feb. 15, 1921.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mrs. Harland (Joanne) Soper, Sioux City; Mrs. Roy (Joyce) Fisher Jr., Davenport; and Mrs. Gerald (Mary Alice) Clock, Midland, Mich.; sons, John Day, Stetchworth, England; and David Day, Harlingen, Tex.; and 19 grandchildren.
