Obituary - Florida Times Union (January 31, 2022)
K.C. ("Kermith", "Hoss") Hall, 90, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on January 28, 2022. K.C. was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and proudly raised in Tallulah Park. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1949, and was awarded a full basketball scholarship to the University of Georgia where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1953.
K.C. was active in all athletics - football, basketball and baseball at Andrew Jackson High School. He was honored to have been named All City/County in all three sports and All Southern in baseball. While playing college baseball from 1949-1953, he was a member of the University of Georgia's first SEC baseball championship, and was All SEC catcher and MVP on the championship team.
He began refereeing high school basketball while he was attending college. After graduating college, he continued refereeing in the SEC, ACC and Southern Conferences until 1974. He refereed the finals of the JUCO National Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1970.
K.C. entered the U.S. Air Force out of ROTC as a 2nd Lt. and was stationed at Shepherd AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas, under General Ed White. He played football and baseball from 1953-1955 and managed the Shepherd AFB's team in 1955.
He worked for the Prudential Insurance Company as an insurance agent with Cot Talley Agency until 1963, leaving to go into business for himself. K.C. ventured into the landscaping business, owned three Texaco stations, the ostrich business, and was a partner of the first Longhorn Steakhouse franchise in Jacksonville.
K.C. retired in 2007 after 35 years as a furniture manufacturer's rep with Schnadig Corp., out of Chicago. He was awarded the Lawrence K. Schnadig Award for outstanding salesman for the company.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, the love of his life, Dorinda; loving and devoted K9 companion, Kasper; his children, Debra Parizek (Kenny); Clay Hall (Stephanie); eight grandchildren, Jake Lee (Angela), Adam Hall, J.L. Oxendine (Mary), Elizabeth Malone (C.J.), Shaunacee Rice (Jason), Michaelle Hall (Devin), Jessica Klocke, Cassidy Hall, MacKenzie Hall; and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Michael Hall (Dianne), parents, Edgar and Treva Hall, and sister, Treva Lou Hewlett.
K.C. never met a stranger and always remembered your name. He lived life to the fullest and truly got the most out of every day he was allowed to be on this earth. It was always never better.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Haven Hospice and especially to Debbie Carzoli.
At K.C.'s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He requested instead that we all remember the words of the great Ben Hogan, "As you walk down the fairway of life, you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round."
