HUIET, Frederick Albert (Whitey)
Born Nov. 16, 1926. Died June 6, 1999 of natural causes at his home in Gatlinburg, TN. Father of Fred Huiet, Kate Phillips, Terri Schmalfuss, Kevin Huiet, Tom Huiet, Michael Huiet and Maureen Dononhoue. Grandfather of 22 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Brother of Mary Herrmann, Charlotte Scharf, Rita Zerhusen, Frances Huiet, William Huiet (deceased) and Joseph Huiet (deceased).
Navy Veteran WWII. In 1946, he signed with the Cincinnati Reds and pitched for the Moultrie, Georgia and Muncie, Indiana farm teams. When his playing days were over, he officiated football and basketball at the high school and college level including the 'Mid-American' league and the 'Big 10' conference for many years. His career included sales for Cincinnati Athletic Goods and finished with Jostens.
Upon retirement he moved to Gatlinburg, TN and spent time doing things he loved - working for friends at the Old Mill Restaurant and Gatlinburg Golf Course - playing golf and bragging about his grandkids!
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 19, 1999 at 12:30 p.m. in Madeira, Ohio at St. Gertrude Church. Family will receive guests at the Parish Center immediately following the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: The Greater Cincinnati Knothole Association, Moeller High School Scholarship Fund or the Heart Association in his name.
