Former Newspaperman Dies
Bruce I. Susong, a former York newspaperman, died suddenly Saturday evening at his home in Louisville, Ky. The 57-year-old former member of the York Daily staff was stricken shortly after he arrived home at 3 p.m. and death occurred six hours later.
The deceased, a native of Newport, Tenn., worked on the York Daily before he was 21 years old and before it was consolidated with The Gazette. Before he left York at the age of 23 he married Miss Edna Gallatin, York, who survives with four children and two grandchildren.
While here he was a star member of the first basketball team of the local Y.M.C.A. Chief Deputy Sheriff Wilbur Gallatin, Herbert Gallatin, Mrs. John Snyder and Mrs. Louise Spangler, all of York, are brothers and sisters-in-law of the deceased.
Susong served as managing editor of the Kentucky Post, the Kentucky edition of the Cincinnati Post, for 13 years. He went to Louisville in 1935 to assume editorship of the short-lived Louisville News and Enquirer and after it ceased publication became connected with a business analysis service.
