WILDCATS WIN IN LAST MINUTE
Lavin Tosses Foul Just Before Great Game is Ended and Beats Washington and Lee, 21 to 20
Lexington, Va., - The University of Kentucky basketball team defeated Washington and Lee University here tonight by a score of 21 to 20.
The contest was easily the most spectacular yet played on the local court, both teams resorting to long shots, from the center of the floor. Captain Kenneth Hines and "Red" Schneider, both mainstays of the Generals, were unable to take part in tonight's game because of illness.
Kentucky played a beautiful passing game all the way. At the end of the first half the score stood 12 to 9 in favor of the Wildcats. The Generals staged a sensational comeback in the second half and tied the score 20 to 20.
A technical foul on W. and L. gave Lavin, Kentucky captain, a shot at the basket, which he made just half a minute before the game ended. Lake scored 16 points for the local quintet.

Washington and Lee Lost to Kentucky Exciting Game by One Point
Washington and Lee met the first local defeat of the season last night when Kentucky, last year's Southern champions, nosed out a one point victory. The score was 20 to 20 one minute before the final whistle, when a free toss at a foul gave the visitors the winning point. The Generals though greatly handicapped by the absence of Captain Hines and Schneider from injuries and the loss of Glenn by sickness five minutes after the game started, put up a fine exhibition. The score at the end of the half was 12 to 9 for Kentucky. They quickly ran the lead to 18 to 11, but a final rally gave Washington and Lee a one point lead with the score 19 to 18. A field goal and foul tied the score and the crowd went wild.
Kentucky's floor work was superb and a pleasure to watch, while their forwards seldom missed shots from any angle. Lake was the star for Washington and Lee, shooting nearly all the goals, and several from the center of the floor. Thomas and Cameron also played stellar games.

Resume
The game with the University of Kentucky, Champions of the South for 1921, came next at Lexington on February 7th, and was the hardest game of the whole season to lose. Kentucky barely succeeded in nosing out a crippled Washington and Lee team by a 21 to 20 score, the extra point coming from a foul shot in the closing minutes of play. Neither Schneider nor Captain Hines took part in the game, the later being on the sick list.
