LOUISVILLE UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL FIVE WINS
State Plays Off Form and Falls City Bunch Scores 26 to 22 Victory
Playing off form, the State University basketball team last night fell a victim to the consistent playing of the five from the University of Louisville by a score of 26 to 22.
Louisville took a big lead in the first half, and at its close had given the State team the little end of a 16 to 6 score. State came back for a few minutes in the second period and, showing a return to regular form, tied the score at 22 to 22. The Cardinals braced themselves at this point and a field goal by Kornfeld, and one by Rectenwald clinched the game.
State's team appeared to have been over-trained, over-confident or some one of the causes which usually contribute to the defeat of a superior team. Only after Captain Zerfoss made a difficult goal did State seem to realize that they had met a team of high caliber and were in danger of being beaten. For a few minutes the play was desperate. Ireland, who replaced Server in the second period, Hart going to center, was apparently overlooked by the Cardinals and he slipped two goals over in a few minutes. His and the customary playing of Derril Hart were the sole features of State's play.
Daniel was the shining light of the Louisville quintet. He snagged baskets from all angles. Whenever the possession of the ball was in doubt, Daniels or Captain Kornfeld, of the visitors, usually emerged from the melee with the ball ready to be passed to one of their team mates.
Hart, of State, threw six out of nine fouls, while McCaleb, of the visitors, threw four out of four. Three personal fouls were called on Terry of the Cards.
