Ex-Kentucky Wesleyan AD Van Winkle Dead

MILWAUKEE - Walter Van Winkle, a founding member of the National Basketball Hall of Fame who also served as athletic director at Kentucky Wesleyan College, has died at 93.
He died Thursday in the a nursing home.
After graduating in 1928 from Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, where he lettered in basketball, baseball and football, Van Winkle became the college's athletic director.
Several years later, he coached baseball at the University of Cincinnati and was a sportscaster and scout for the Cincinnati Reds. He also coached baseball at the University of Miami, Ohio.
Van Winkle joined the Navy in 1942 and became a salesman in 1954 for Huntington Laboratories in Milwaukee, from which he retired in 1977.
