Former UTM Coach, MSU Player Burdette Dies
MARTIN, Tenn. - Former Tennessee-Martin basketball coach Floyd Burdette, who compiled 203 victories to log the most wins in the school's history has died. Burdette died Friday of heart disease at Volunteer General Hospital here. He was 81. Funeral services were scheduled for Monday at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with burial at East Side Cemetery.
Burdette, a star player in the 1930s for Murray State, also taught physical education at Tennessee-Martin and retired from teaching in 1980. He held the title of professor-emeritus. During his 19 years as coach at Tennessee-Martin, from 1952 to 1971, Burdette compiled 203 wins against 201 losses. He led the team to the Volunteer State Athletic Conference championship in 1970 and was later inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
