Obituary - Dr. Donald L. Whitehead, Evansville (IN) Courier & Press (October 18, 2009)
Dr. Donald L. Whitehead, 84, of Evansville, died Friday, October 16, 2009, at St. Mary's Warrick County Hospital.
He retired as on oral surgeon and practiced for over 38 years. He started practice with Dr. Frank O'Halloran and later joined Dr. Edward Pffalin and Dr. Richard Henry. He was a member of the Indiana Dental Association, Indiana Society of Oral Surgeons, American Society of Oral Surgeons, First District Dental Association, and past president of Indiana Oral Surgery Society.
Don was a graduate of Bosse High School and attended University of Kentucky where he played basketball for Adolph Rupp. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and attended Bowling Green State University where in 1945 he played in the NIT and was the leading scorer. He then attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and after service, enrolled into Evansville College and played basketball for Arad McCutchen and then he graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Don was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Evansville Kennel Club.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia, son Mark D. Whitehead and his wife Karen of Evansville, daughters Diane Whitehead and Suzanne Draper and her husband Chris of Evansville, grandchildren Sarah and Laura Whitehead, and Jackson Draper, sisters Virginia Million of Phoenix, AZ, and Patricia Miller and her husband Gale of Evansville, brother Gene Whitehead and his wife Gail of Evansville, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 19 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN, and continued from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd., Evansville, on Tuesday, October 20, with the Reverend Stephen Lintzenich officiating.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20 with entombment in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
