Obituary - Homer W. "Tub" Thompson, Louisville Courier-Journal (June 24, 2007)
THOMPSON HOMER W. "TUB," 91 of Jeffersonville died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Hillcrest Centre in Jeffersonville. He was a native of Jeffersonville, born January 18, 1916, and graduated from Jeffersonville High School where he played on the celebrated 1935 Jeffersonville Basketball team. He was a teacher at his alma mater and was coach of the boy's junior varsity team.
He went to the University of Kentucky on scholarship and played with Adolph Rupp's Wildcats. While a student there, he was crowned Intramural Boxing Champ. After graduation, he played with Kautsky's All American pro basketball team out of Indianapolis. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
He was married for forty-two years to Virginia Northam of New Albany. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1958 where he was employed by the Broward County Florida Board of Health, until his retirement. In 2003, he moved back to Indiana and lived in Westminster Village.
He is survived by two sisters, Alice Sample of Jeffersonville, and June Hall of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Linda Brady, Louisville, Robert Leinhart, St. Charles, MO, and Rick Leinhart, Lansing, MI; nine great -grandchildren, four great- great- grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Homer W. "Tub" Thompson, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Scott Funeral Home's Main Street Chapel. Visitation will be at Scott Funeral Home's Main Street Chapel after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
