Obituary - Ralph Jackowski Sr. - Retired Dock Worker, Daily Southtown (IL) (August 2, 1996)
Mr. Jackowski retired in 1975 as a dock worker for a trucking company. Before that he worked for State Farm Insurance. He also once owned a butcher shop.
He was born and raised in Chicago and lived for a time in the Palos area before moving 12 years ago to Orland Park.
Mr. Jackowski graduated from St. Rita High School, where he played football and basketball. He also played those sports for two years at the University of Notre Dame. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in business.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Jackowski of the home; a daughter, Gayanne Fitzgerald of Orland Park; a son, Ralph Jackowski Jr. of Lockport; a sister, Lorraine Griglak of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Thornridge Funeral Home, 14318 S. LaGrange Road, Orland Park. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

Ralph G. Jackowski Sr., a 12-year resident of Orland Park, died Thursday, Aug. 1, at Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet.
A service was Saturday at Thornridge Funeral Home, Orland Park, with the Rev. Patrick Marshall officiating. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
Mr. Jackowski was born May 9, 1915, in Chicago. He was retired and was formerly employed as a dockman for a trucking company and by State Farm Insurance; and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (nee Scrol); a daughter, Gay (Gerald) Fitzgerald or Orland Park; a son, Ralph Jr. (Terese) of Lockport; a sister, Lorraine (Cyril) Griglak of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
