Obituary - M.J. Anderson Taken By Death, Lexington Herald (November 28, 1953)
He moved his insurance business from Lexington to Galena Park two years ago.
An all-state guard in 1931 when the Covington Holmes basketball team advanced to state tournament semi-finals. Mr. Anderson played two years of football and four years of basketball at the University of Kentucky. He was captain of the 1937 basketball team and was an all-American guard in 1936.
After leaving the University, he was general agent for the National Life Insurance Company of Vermont and for the Berkshire Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Anderson was elected city commissioner in 1947 as a candidate on the City Ticket headed by Tom Mooney.
He was born in Covington, Ky.
While here, he was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, the Blue Grass Executives Club, the Lexington Life Underwriters Association, the Optimist Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Baptist church. During World War II, he served with the Merchant Marine.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine S. Anderson.
