Raymond Mock Is Buried Here
Funeral services for Raymond Mock, who spent his entire adult life in service to the youth of the New Orleans area, were held February 2 from St. Benilde Catholic church in Metairie with interment in Hope Mausoleum.
Mr. Mock, 60, died February 1 following a long illness.
Mr. Mock graduated from Jesuit high school and received a law degree from Loyola University in 1934. He returned to Jesuit as a coach and continued there until 1943 when he was named director of the Catholic Youth Organization, a post he held for 27 years.
Upon his retirement in 1970 the Rev. Andrew Taormina, archdiocesan director of the CYO said: "Ray Mock's entire life has been dedicated to the physical and moral development of youth in this metropolitan area."
"he will be sorely missed by his colleagues and by the young people for whom he has given so much," Father Taormina had said, and these words still hold true as the Catholic archdiocese of the greater New Orleans area today mourns the passing of this man.
He is survived by his widow, the former Edna Mae Neyrey, two sons, Dr. Raymond Mock Jr., and Henry Mock, two daughters, Maureen Mock and Mrs. Debron Thibodeaux, and several grandchildren.
