Raymond E. Lackey Services Set for Friday
Shelbyville, Ind. - Services for Raymond E. Lackey, 70, a lifelong Shelbyville resident and former Shelbyville clerk treasurer, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Murphy Mortuary, where calling will be after 4 p.m. Thursday.
He died Monday in Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis.
Mr. Lackey was a teacher and coach in the Shelbyville school system. He had been a high school and college basketball referee from 1935 to 1958 and had officiated several Indiana-Kentucky high school all star and Big Ten games.
He left the Shelbyville schools to become a machine tool salesman and later worked as personnel manager for Admiral Corp.
Active in politics he had been a Republican precinct committeeman and was campaign manager for Ralph Van Natta when he was elected mayor of Shelbyville. He had been doorkeeper of the Indiana Senate and he served on the Indiana Department of Commerce.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Eagles Lodge and Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lackey; two sons, Steve and Doug Lackey; and his mother, Callie Smith.
