Obituary - Tribute Archive
Surrounded by his family, Lawrence Meeks moved to heaven at the age of 83 on October 2, 2018. Lawrence is survived by his two daughters, Nicole and her husband Michael Hogue and Paige and her husband Marc Stromen, as well as his seven wonderful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeanell, his brother John Fort and his parents Lillian and John H.
Lawrence was born in Selma, AL and raised in Kossuth, MS where he graduated from Kossuth High School and then the University of Southern Mississippi, where he lettered in football and baseball.
After graduating from college, he proudly served in our nationÕs armed forces. In 1984, Lawrence was inducted into USMÕs sports Hall of Fame for his contributions on the football field. He later received his masterÕs degree in Administration from Mississippi College and worked as an educator for 25 years in the state of Mississippi.
Lawrence was a sports enthusiast with golf being his favorite activity, but nothing gave him more pleasure than being with his family. He was a loving and proud Papa. Although he will be greatly missed, we rejoice knowing he is with his Lord Jesus and look forward to a glorious reunion.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 6 at the Hernando United Methodist Church with a memorial service following at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at Shiloh Presbyterian Cemetery in Kossuth, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to SamaritanÕs Purse.
