Obituary - Brown and Hickey Funeral Home (October 19, 2019)
John Francis Hannon, known to all his friends and loved ones as Jack, was born December 22, 1929 in the city of Cambridge and died October 19, 2019 at his beloved family home in that same city.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan Hannon (Kelley) and his devoted daughters Jan Carlson (Weston), Diana Potter (Norton), Laurel Laurendeau (Sudbury), Suzette Rizzo (Winthrop), and Angel Swift (Abington.) He was the proud Papa to his grandchildren Evan Carlson, Meghan DeLong, Kyle Potter, Andrew Potter, Jack Laurendeau, Mallory Andrews, Caroline Laurendeau, Holly Hannon, Isabella Rizzo, and Melanie Swift, and to his great grandchildren Drew, Sean, Leah, Emmie and Seamus. Son of the late George and Grace Hannon and brother of the late Grace Murphy.
Graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Jack was a member of the Cambridge YMCA for 80 years. Once known as the New England Handball Champ. Jack spent over 30 years as a member of the I.A.A.B.O. and C.B.O.A. associations of basketball officials, refereeing basketball games for high school, then college, all over the country. He was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2003 and to the Cambridge Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Rd. Belmont Thursday at 10 am. Funeral mass in St. JohnÕs Church 2254 Mass Ave. Cambridge at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Interment Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
