James E. Coogan, Olympic Cage Secretary, Dies
ORANGE (AP) - James E. Coogan, manager of the 1956 U.S. Olympic basketball team that won a gold medal at Melbourne died Tuesday at his home at 78.
At the time of his death, Coogan was secretary of the U.S. Olympic Basketball Committee and an international executive of the Amateur Athletic Union. He was U.S. representative at four Olympiads.
Coogan was an assistant manager of the basketball team at the Helsinki games in 1952 and manager in 1956 at Melbourne. He was an official on the U.S. Olympic Committee at Rome four years later and at Tokyo in 1964.
Coogan was director of parks and recreation in New Haven from 1953 to 1965.
