Jack Alexander
BREVARD - Jack Alexander, 69, of 454 Boxwood Lane, died Monday in Brevard.
A native of Canton, he had resided in Transylvania County since 1949. He was a son of the late John Wesley and Gorda Felmath Alexander and was a retired employment supervisor for Olin Corp. He was a graduate of Asheville High School and Duke University, where he played football and was vice president of the student body.
He was a veteran of World War II, holding the rank of lieutenant.
He played minor league baseball and coached football and baseball at Virginia Military Institute and at Brevard College.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Lipe Alexander; a son, Randolph J. Alexander of Atlanta; and a brother, J. Lewis Alexander of Fort Myers, Fla.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Pisgah Gardens.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church,, of which he was an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. The Revs. Ben Ormand and Kert Gebhart will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, Black Mountain, or to a favorite charity.
