H.A. Babb, Ex-College Head, Dies
MT. STERLING, Ky. - Harvey Arthur Babb, former president of Morehead State College (now a university), died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in Mary Chiles Hospital here after a short illness. He was 81.
A native of Marion, Mr. Babb was superintendent of Mt. Sterling city schools from 1920 until 1935 when he became president of Morehead State College. He held that post until 1940 when he was named director of the State Unemployment Commission by Gov. Simeon Willis.
In 1948, he returned to Mt. Sterling where he owned a real estate brokerage until his death.
A graduate of UK, Mr. Babb was named to the University of Kentucky Alumni Association's Hall of Fame several years ago.
He was a former member of the Republican State Central Executive Committee.
Mr. Babb was a member of the Unitarian Church of the Larger Fellowship of Boston, Mass., and the state and national education associations.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Horton Babb; two sons, William T. Babb, Rock Island, Ill., and James M. Babb, Concord, N.C.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Fred Darling, Richmond; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
