Obituary - Atlanta Constitution (January 24, 1980)
Emory L. Cocke, Businessman, Dies
Emory L. Cocke, president of the Exposition Co. and chairman of The Atlanta Foundation, died Wednesday at the age of 82.
A graduate of the Marist School in Atlanta, Mr. Cocke attended the University of Georgia. He was a director of the First National Bank of Atlanta for 23 years and a charter member of the University of Georgia Foundation President's Club. Mr. Cocke was an honorary alumnus of Georgia Tech, and he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Marist School in 1977.
In 1936, Mr. Cocke formed the Sun-Citrus Products Co. in Haines City, Fla., and was considered a pioneer in the citrus byproducts industry. Recently, he donated the research records and a written history of the company to the Citrus Institute at Florida Southern College. He was a member of the agricultural honorary societies AGHON and Gamma Sigma Delta International.
Mr. Cocke served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He was a member of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, the Piedmont Driving Club and the Capital City Club.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Frances Floyd Cocke, and daughter, Mrs. Dameron Black III of Atlanta. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.
