Obituary - Fresno Bee (May 11, 2005)
Robert Herrold
Robert passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005. He was able to share his passion with others through public service. After serving in the U.S. military during the Korean war, he returned to Glendale, CA and began officiating public municipal basketball games. His love of basketball inspired a pursuit in that area: a college basketball official for over 30 years, he was honored to work two NCAA Championship games. He retired from the court to the courtside, becoming Supervisor of Officials for the West Coast Conference.
He also brought the excitement of basketball to Europe during the 1970's to help form the European Basketball League. Robert also traveled to Korea to bring enjoyment of basketball to the U.S. troops serving there.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Herrold. He is survived by Elaine of Auberry, his wife of 53 years; son, Gregg Herrold of Fresno; daughter, Michelle Kesler and her husband Steve of Utah; son, Mark Herrold of Shaver Lake; son, Peter Herrold of Auberry; sister, Joy Ann Lawrence and her husband William of Dana Point; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
