Recovery:

Kentucky recovered solidly from its defeat at the hands of Louisville to beat the Ohio University BobCats by a score of 95-58. The Cats returned to more fundamental basketball play, hitting a stellar 61.3% from the floor (including 50% from beyond the 3 pt line), and their FTs were connecting as well, as UK hit on 77.8% of its charity tosses. Kentucky held the smaller BobCats to 29.8% FG shooting for the game (27.6% in the 2nd half). The Wildcats were ranked 6th in the nation by AP during this contest. Nazr Mohammed was given his 1st starting role of the year in this game.

Ohio gave the Cats a tough time early, going up 4-0, but the Cats slowly worked their way into the game, going up 7-4 after a Padgett FT. A Peterson 3 made it 10-7 UK, but then Kentucky went on a patented spurt to go up 20-7 before the BobCats scored again. A lob pass from Sheppard to Bradley made it 22-9, and after an Evans steal and layup the score was 26-12. Petersen hit another 3 and Evans had a putback of a Mohammed miss to make it 28-15. A Mohammed hook made the score 33-18. Later a Ford FT closed the margin to 37-25, but UK was not seriously threatened as Smith drove the length of the floor for a layup to make the score 46-31 at the half. The Cats had hit on 56% of their 1st half FGs, compared to 32% for the BobCats.

Flenoril, Adell, and Peterson provided most of the offense early in the 2nd half, but Edwards and Mohammed countered to make the score 56-39 by the time of the next TV timeout. Adell hit a 3, but Magloire answered with a FT and a banked shot to make the score 61-42. The margin continued to grow in the 2nd half, as the tired BobCats were faced with fresh Wildcats. Jeff Sheppard made a layup to make it 74-44, then Speers was hurt when he ran headlong into an immovable Mohammed while chasing a loose ball. Turner hit a 3 to put the Cats up 85-68, and later a Magloire putback would give Kentucky its largest lead of the night at 91-51. A couple of Magloire FTs ended the scoring for UK, while Flenoril hit a 3 and Martin ended the scoring with a layup to provide the final score of the game at 95-58.

The 95 pts scored by UK are a season high. Ohio University center Nick Terry did not play in this game due to a rapid heartbeat, which is still being studied. Terry lost consciousness during a practice last week.
