Kentucky Massacres a Mound of Mutinous Moutaineers:
UK scored its largest number of points ever in an NCAA game as it demolished the Mountaineers from Mt St Mary's (in their 1st appearance ever in the Tournament) by a final score of 113-67. UK was led by Tony Delk with 20 points. Four other Wildcats scored in double figures. The game was played in the 1st round of the NCAA Southeast Regional.
The Cats were blistering from the floor, scoring on 57% of their FGs. They shot even better in the 1st half - 62%, en route to a 59-36 halftime. Mt St Mary's took an early 5-2 lead as the Cats started slow in the game's 1st minute and a half, but UK scored the next 13 points to take a commanding lead. After this, MSM closed to 20-15 with 13.5 minutes left, but then Prickett scored 2 low post baskets to lift Kentucky to a 26-18 lead. With about 9.5 minutes left in the half, the Cats were up 30-19, and a later 15-4 UK run pushed the margin to 49-28.
In the 2nd half, the lead grew to its largest at 59-34 [JNB note - the game was not shown in Atlanta, so I have no play by play (WHAS radio was not coming in loud and clear either).]
