Wildcats Blow Out Tigers:
Tony Delk scored 27 points to lead the Wildcats to their 31st consecutive Seniors Night victory as Kentucky blasted LSU by a 127-80 count. The Cats placed 6 players in double figures for the second straight game, compared with LSU's 3. The 47 point loss was LSU's second worst ever, all-time. Anthony Epps had a career high 13 assists (surpassing his even dozen against South Carolina earlier this year), and Chris Harrison had a career high 16 points (passing his 11 points against Florida earlier this season). UK was ranked 5th, LSU unranked in this contest.
Delk started off UK's scoring with a 3, but LSU went up 4-3 and 13-9 as Caesar, Rubchenko, and Henderson contributed to the scoring. UK edged ahead 14-13 on a pair of Pope FTs, but LSU slipped back up 15-14 on a Caesar 16 footer. Delk hit nearly everything he put up, hitting 2 more 3s and 4 FTs in the 1st half of the 1st half. The Tigers took their last lead (21-20) on a Henderson shot which was goaltended by Delk. Tony hit a 3 a few seconds later to put the Cats up for good at 23-21 (it was his 16th point), and Kentucky never trailed again.
UK pulled out to a 32-24 lead on an Epps 3, and after this they never led by single digits again. After a steal Delk hesitated on a 3, then hit for his 5th 3 (and 19th point), as the Cats went on a 15-3 run. Following a Caesar miss and a TV timeout, Riddick and Caesar appeared to come close to blows, as did Rhodes and Scott, yet no fouls were called. Rhodes several times refused to shoot open 3s, and on one occasion his hesitation allowed Henderson to steal the ball (although Henderson missed his shot). An 11-2 Kentucky run followed, led by Delk FGs and a McCarty reverse and dunk, to put the Cats up 46-26.
At this point, Chris Harrison was unleashed, and hit 3 consecutive 3 pointers to pull the Cats out to a 55-31 lead before Harrison missed a 3. Scott Padgett came in and hit a 3 on his 1st shot, and followed this up with a nice steal and assist to Epps for a 3. A fine Epps-to-Prickett pass ended the half with a UK dunk and Kentucky up 63-36. By halftime, the Wildcats had hit on 12 of 18 3 pointers, with Delk scoring 21 points and Epps 10.
The second half was more of the same. The Cats staged a 9-3 run, and LSU's shooting woes continued. A pair of Pope FTs with 15 minutes left in the game, and a Prickett putback of his own missed shot, increased the margin to 76-43. Delk and Caesar traded 3s, then Walker hit 2 in succession to make the score 92-59. With 8 minutes left in the game, Rhodes finally took a 3 point shot and made it, followed by another Walker 3 to make it 106-67.
The UK walk-on Cameron Mills came in a few minutes later, and he gave Riddick an assist to make the margin 118-71. Harrison hit one more 3 at the 2 minute mark, and the two sides exchanged shots until the final mercifully came for the Tigers with the Wildcats prevailing 127-80.
