PASSES AWAY IN NORTH CAROLINA
"Shorty" Higgins, Former Centre Basketball Coach, Died Last Night
Ray "Shorty" Higgins, 43, coach of the Centre College basketball team in 1919 and well known and popular business man of Somerset, died last night at 6 o'clock at Raleigh, N.C., after a ten-day illness of pneumonia, according to a message recevied from Somerset today by the Daily Messenger.
This will be sad news to all those who remember Mr. Higgins when he was coaching the Centre team, as he and his lovely wife were highly respected and loved by all who knew them.
Mr. Higgins was formerly in the hardware business at Somerset, but later accepted a position as secretary of the Chamber of Commerce at Springfield, Ohio. For the past year or two he was connected with the U.S. Resettlement work at Raleigh. He was a graduate of the Ohio Wesleyan College.
Deceased is survived by his wife and son, Ray, Jr., and his mother, Mrs. James Pearson, of Springfield, O. Mr. Higgins and family visited friends and relatives at Somerset during the Christmas holidays.
The body will be returned to Somerset Thursday and funeral services will probably be held there Saturday.
