Obituary - Charles Ford (Chili) Ishmael, Lexington Herald-Leader (January 13, 2018)
Charles Ford (Chili) Ishmael passed away peacefully following a three-year journey with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer on January 11, 2018 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, with his wife and their three daughters by his side.
A lifelong resident of Mt. Sterling, Chili was born on June 21, 1942 to Adrian and Pauline Cornett Ishmael and went on to play football and basketball for University of Kentucky between 1960-1964. He was a multisport coach and teacher in Montgomery County, Kentucky and retired in 1993.
Coach Chili Ishmael was a member of Gateway Christian Church and is survived by his life partner Nancy, their three daughters Kathryn Ishmael Johnson and her husband, Keith, Susan Ishmael and her husband Steven Howell, and Claire Ishmael Pruner and her husband, Jon; his seven grandchildren Brennan Johnson, Sarah Grace Johnson, Jack Johnson, Parker Poulos, Peyton Poulos, Josh Pruner, and Spencer Pruner; his sister, Mary Alice Tuttle and her husband Cecil, his brother Dutch Ishmael, his sister Ann Steger and her husband, Curt, and his nieces Cecilia Tuttle Floyd and Mary Ann Steger Baird, his nephews Brian Tuttle, Dave Ishmael, Steven Tuttle, Ryan Steger, Mark Steger, and Chris Steger and multiple great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his second mother, Hazel Justice Ishmael, and his much-loved sister-in-law, Pam Toy Ishmael.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2018, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Gateway Christian Church with the service beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a meal immediately following. Pallbearers are his grandchildren, and honorary pallbearers are all former players he was honored to coach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gateway Christian Church Building Fund in Chili's honor.
