Obituary - Harlan Boy Dies In Colorado, Middlesboro KY Pinnacle News (June 4, 1914)
The deceased was a member of the local lodge of Elks and a committee composed of E.L. Camp, Frank Kearns, John Chesney and L.K. Rice will represent the lodge at the funeral and will carry with them a handsome floral design. Mrs. Southard and her daughter, Miss Mary, will leave tomorrow morning for Harlan to attend the funeral.
The deceased graduate from State University at Lexington last June with distinction. He was one of the leading athletes of the University while attending college but was stricken with tuberculosis and in spite of his fine physical condition he could not withstand the ravages of the disease and was compelled to leave for Colorado in search of health. He gradually grew weaker until death came to his relief. His father, Daniel S. Farmer, of Harlan, left two weeks ago for Colorado to be with his son.
The grief stricken wife, who is the eldest daughter of Mrs. Ernest Southard, of this city, and who was teaching in the public schools here at the time of her marriage, has the tender and sincere sympathy of the entire community over the loss of her husband.

Henry L. Farmer, a young civil engineer who came to Golden a year ago in search of health, died here last Saturday of tuberculosis. He had reached the age of 22 years and leaves a young wife, who was here with him during his illness. His father arrived a short time before he died, and the remains were shipped from the Davidson parlors Monday to Harlan, Ky.
