Obituary - Gerry L. Calvert Sr., Lexington Herald-Leader (July 15, 2021)
Gerry L. Calvert, Sr., 85, of Lexington, passed from this world peacefully at his home in Lexington on July 12, 2021, surrounded by family.
A native of Maysville, Kentucky, and a graduate of Maysville High School, Gerry played basketball for the University of Kentucky under Coach Adolph Rupp from 1954 - 1957. Drafted to play professionally by the Philadelphia Warriors, Gerry instead chose a career in law, graduating from the University of Louisville Louis C. Brandeis Law School in 1965, and practiced law in Lexington for 56 years.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles McClellan Calvert and Mildred Rebecca Brown Calvert; and his brothers Melvin Eugene Gillespie, Everett McLellan "Jack" Calvert, and Robert Lee Calvert.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Cathy Greer Calvert; his children, Catherine M. DeLoach of Lexington, Gerry Lynn Calvert, II (Christine Bova), and Stephanie Calvert Day of Paris; his brother, James L. Calvert of Louisville; sister, Shirley C. Smith of Buford, GA; grandchildren, William S. DeLoach, III, Emma Kate Calvert, Andrew Franklin Calvert, Hannah June Parsons, and Thomas Brent Parsons; and many more extended loved ones.
Visitation will be at Kerr Brothers - Harrodsburg Road, Lexington from 6-8 pm, Friday, July 16. A funeral mass will be 1:00 pm Saturday, July 17, at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 299 Colony Blvd, Lexington, KY 40502, with visitation from 12 pm until time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, Kentucky.
