STATE WINS 32-13
DEFEATS CENTRAL AT BASKETBALL BY AN OVERWHELMING SCORE
The State University basketball team administered an overwhelming defeat to the Central University five on the latter's floor at Danville Friday night, the game resulting in a score of 32 to 13. It was Central's first game of the season, and the second game and victory for State.
There was never a time during the game that the State team's chances for victory were in doubt, and Central showed a sad lack of material and weight. The loss of the two Seelbachs and Hess from last year's squad greatly crippled the Danville team for this year, and as yet no men have been found to competently fill those vacancies.
On the other hand the State five proved stronger than it has been in years. Gaiser, playing guard for the Blue and White, was a sensation, and not once did he permit his opposing forward to score a point. Barnett and Hart also played well for State. Blakey was the individual star for the Danville team.
Game Writeup - Kentucky Advocate
In a game that was fought with bull dog tenacity from start to finish, the C.U. basket ball team was vanquished by the State University five. It was a fast game, featured by many individual plays and good team work. The final score was 32 to 12.
The gymnasium was crowded with C.U. students, a contingency from Caldwell, and others interested in the sport, and from the time the teams came on the floor until the referee's whistle sounded an end of the battle, interest in the game never lagged. The game started out with a rush, Coleman, the big fast center of the home team, making the first goal. The crowd went wild with delight and many predicted or felt assured of a victory for the Cardinal and Blue boys but the visitors soon settled down to work and by the end of the first half had rolled up a score of 12 to 6. The sport was clean, about the same number of fouls being called on each team. Early in the game it was seen that the game little Central men would have a hard time holding their opponents, on account of their great height.
The second half was a repetition of the first, the home team fighting desperately to keep the score down and the visitors doing all in their power to get revenge for the many defeats they have suffered in this sport in the last few years. All the State players are tall, fast men, most of them several years experience. Gaiser was the individual star of the game and his long shots made many points for his team. He was captain of State's team last year and has played four years on the team and is undoubtedly the classiest player in the State at present. Hart also did good work for State.
All the C.U. men played clever ball, but Bruce and Coleman starred. They were material in preventing a larger score and will develop into players of more than ordinary ability.
Coach Webb accompanied his team to Danville and the visitors' unique style of playing was the result of his efforts. It was noted throughout the game that the guards of the State team played near their own goal and they threw far more baskets than the forwards.
