Obituary - Tributes
Roger Benjamin Clark of Cornwall, PA, formerly of Plymouth died on July 31st. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Elizabeth (Bennett) Clark.
Roger was born in Plymouth on August 28, 1914 the son of William N. and Mabel (Guy) Clark. He was predeceased by their son Richard Baldwin Clark, their daughter Virginia Guy Clark, his sister Janet Clark Raymond and his Aunt Louise Guy Raymond. He leaves a brother Harold G. Clark and his wife Mary of Plymouth, a sister Marion Clark Powell and her husband Victor of Crawfordsville, IN. He leaves his nieces Linda R. Phillips of Plymouth, Carol P. Lombardi of Libertyville, IL and Karen P. McCarthy of Twin Falls, ID, his nephews William of Kenneybunkport, ME Richard of Dillon, CO and John D. Clark of Plymouth, 7 grand nieces and nephews and 4 great grand nieces and nephews.
Roger was a graduate of Plymouth High School Class of 1932 where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He was a Charter Member of the Plymouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1939 he graduated from Springfield College where he participated in three sports, captained the football team and received his bachelor's degree.
He was the Director of Men's Physical Education at Berea College in Berea, KY from 1939 to 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S Coast Guard serving for 22 years until his retirement in 1964 as Commander of the Coast Guard Cutter "STORIS". Later he worked as the director of the "Business Men's Fitness Club" for the YMCA in Boston and later in Manhattan YMCA from which he retired after 18 years. He has resided in Cornwall, PA since 1999.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Church of the Pilgrimage, 8 Town Square, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to the Springfield College, Springfield, MA. A graveside service will be held on Friday August 11th at 10 AM at the Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth.
