R.W. Cochran, Cape Code Educator
WELLFLEET - Richard W. Cochran, 63, of Hill avenue, a long-time educator and school principal in the Cape Cod area, died yesterday at home.
Mr. Cochran was born in Medford, and was a resident of Wellfleet for the past 18 years. He graduated from Tufts University in 1934 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1938 he began teaching in the Provincetown school system, and a year later became the first principal of the Wellfleet Consolidated School. He was principal of a Sherborn school. He returned to Wellfleet in 1952 to serve again as principal of the Consolidated school.
Mr. Cochran was member and former president of the Cape Cod's Principals Assn. and a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Tufts University. He was moderator of the Congregational Church in WEllfleet and was a member of the Boy Scout Committee and the Wellfleet Recreation Committee.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Miriam (Riley) Cochran of Wellfleet; a son, Richard M. Cochran of Wellfleet; two daughters, Mrs. Richard S. Lavash of Sherborn and Mrs. John E. Delaney of Trumbull; two brothers, Leonard Cochran of Randolph and Arthur cochran of Winchester; a sister, Miss Margaret Cochran of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandsons and a granddaughter.
Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
