Press Maravich
Press Maravich, of Indian Rocks, Fla., formerly of Aliquippa, died Wednesday, April 15, 1987 in Covington, La.
A member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, and the American Serbian Club, Aliquippa, he was a former basketball coach at Baldwin and Alquippa High Schools, Davis-Elkins College, West Virginia University and West Virginia Wesleyan; all of West Virgina; Clemson and North Carolina State and Appalachian State, all of North Carolina (sic), and Louisiana State. A former athletic director and assistant coach for Campbell University, North Carolina, he also coached in Sweden and Puerto Rico, and conducted basketball clinics in Israel and Europe. He was a professional scout for the New Orleans Saints basketball team, and was a fighter pilot with the United States Navy, having served in the Pacific during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Maravich, and a brother, Mark Kosanovich.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald and Pete Maravich, both of New Orleans; a daughter, Diana Maravich, North Carolina; a brother, Sam Kosanovich, Midland and two grandsons.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa.
Mr. Maravich will lie in state Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. in Wildwood Chapel, Hopewell Township. Pastor Nick Radovich will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Elijah Cemetery, Hopewell Township.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the Pistol Pete All-Star Basketball Scholarship Fund.
