Curtis Kumler Young by Robert Stoy
Curtis Kumler Young was born 18 December 1889 in Westerville, Franklin Co., Ohio. He was the son of William Alvester Young and Frances "Fanny" Kumler. Curtis Kumler Young died 13 February 1919 at age 29 of influenza while in the US Army. He was buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France, (Plot D Row 39 Grave 8; there is also a memorial stone for Curtis at the Otterbein Cemetery, Westerville, Franklin County, Ohio.)
Curtis Kumler Young appeared on the 1900 federal census of Franklin Co., Ohio, in his parent's household. He appeared on the 1910 federal census of Franklin Co., Ohio, in his father's household. He registered for the World War I Selective Service Draft 5 June 1917 in Westerville, Franklin Co., Ohio, where he lived at 114 North State Street and worked as a salesman for the Monypeny-Hammond Company [wholesale grocer] in Columbus.
He was single, tall, medium build, had blue eyes and dark hair. He saw military service in WWI in the Headquarters Troop, 37th Infantry Division, from his enlistment date of 23 Jul 1917 to his death 13 Feb 1919. He became a Private First Class 20 Oct 1917 and a wagoner 26 Aug 1918. He was a member of the American Expeditionary Forces from 15 Jun 1918 until his death and served in the Meuse-Argonne and Ypres-Lys actions in 1918.
