PEORIA - Robert W. Brodbeck, 84, of Peoria died at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton.
Born on June 23, 1922, in Peoria to George and Ruby Graves Brodbeck, he was the beloved husband of Le Anne Cone. They were married on March 6, 1944, in Peoria. She died on Dec. 16, 2001, in Peoria.
He was the loving father to one daughter, Le Anne Brodbeck of Peoria; one son, Thomas (Teri) Brodbeck of Stillwater, Minn.; three grandchildren, Thomas (Tamra) Heindselman of Greeley, Colo., and John and Andrew Brodbeck of Stillwater, Minn.; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chet Brodbeck of Canton and Michael Brodbeck of Peoria; and two sisters, Ruby Arms of Peoria and Pat Sharum of Peoria.
He was executive secretary for Pipe Trades Industry Fund in Peoria.
He was an IHSA, Big Ten and Missouri Valley official for over 40 years. He was referee for the 1973 Rose Bowl. He also officiated four Illinois High School Basketball Title Games.He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame, Bloomington Sports Hall of Fame and Illinois Officials Association. He was a former member of Independent Sportsman's Club. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and a avid avid golfer.
He also was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with Rev. Donald Roszkowski officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Wright and Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the mass at church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date in Resurrection Mausoleum.Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Sandwich Program or Alzheimer's research.
