Cats coast to win over High Point
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Keith Bogans scored 21 points and Gerald Fitch added 18 on Tuesday as Kentucky coasted to an 84-64 victory over High Point in the Wildcats' home opener at Rupp Arena.
Bogans and Fitch combined to hit 17 of 24 shots on a night when Kentucky (3-1) hit for 63 percent from the field, its best shooting night since a win over Indiana two years ago.
All five starters finished in double-figure scoring -- Chuck Hayes (11, 7 rebounds), Jules Camara (10, 7 rebounds) and Marquis Estill (10) -- on a night when the Cats played without injured Antwain Barbour and suspended players Erik Daniels and Cliff Hawkins.
"It was a solid win," UK coach Tubby Smith said. "We did some good things. Coach Steele had a good game plan to shorten the game as much as he could with the shot clock, and our kids showed a lot of discipline because you can get out of character and try to force things when a team plays like that. We stuck with our game plan and ended up with a good 20-point win."
Kentucky, which led by only six points at the half, pulled away with a 17-2 run midway through the second half.
Dustin Van Weerdhuizen scored 18 points to lead High Point (2-2), the alma mater for UK's Smith.
