KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 21 (AP) -- University of Tennessee piled up a 13 point lead over University of Kentucky here tonight and despite a strong comeback on the part of the Wildcats in the closing half, defeated the Lexington team, 19 to 14.
Kentucky missed many close shots and resorted to long range shelling of the basket for the most part. Jenkins and Phipps were the stars for the visitors, while Butcher and Shultz shone brightest for the Volunteers.

TENNESSEE PILES UP EARLY LEAD TO DOWN KENTUCKY 19 TO 14; CATS PLAY GEORGIA TECH TONIGHT
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 22 - Getting a 13-point lead in the early part of the game, while Kentucky was obviously off form enabled the University of Tennessee Volunteers to defeat the Wildcats here Friday night in a Southern Conference game by a score of 19 to 14.
Tennessee had to withstand a terrific rush by the visitors in the final half, but their heavy lead pulled them thru.
Frank Phipps was high scorer of the game with eight points, while McKeen and Butcher, got seven each for Tennessee.
The Wildcats left here for Atlanta Ga., where they meet Georgia Tech tonight.
