Obituary - Irvine Jeffries dies; was former baseball player, Louisville Courier-Journal (June 9, 1982)
Former major league baseball player, Irvine F. Jeffries, died yesterday at Lyndon Lane Nursing Center after a long illness. He was 76.
Jeffries, whose professional baseball career started in the late 1920s, was an infielder for the Chicago White Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds. He retired in 1941.
He later managed several minor league teams and in 1948 was a scout for the Chicago White Sox.
His athletic career began at Manual High School in the early 1920s where he starred in football, basketball and baseball. In 1944, he coached football, basketball and baseball at the old Flaget High School.
Survivors include a son, Tom Jeffries; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Welsh; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
