Obituary - James E. Durham Jr., Louisville Courier-Journal (February 23, 2002)
James E. Durham Jr., 74, of Louisville, died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Norton Suburban Hospital.
He was past president of Anchor Oil Co., which he founded in 1972. He was a graduate of Anchorage High School. He attended University of Kentucky and was a 1949 graduate of the US Naval Academy, and played collegiate basketball for both schools. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a teacher and member of the Adult Bible Class and Elder of Anchorage Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 71 years. He also served on the Presbyterian Committe on Ministry. He was a member of Kentucky Petroleum Marketers Association and Louisville Oilmen's Club, was a former board member of Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children, Anchorage Board of Education (1966-1978) and Anchor Theater, and was amember and past president of Owl Creek Country Club. He was the 1982 recipient of the Anchorage Community Service Award.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Dennis; a daughter, Julie White of Black Mountain, NC; sons, James E. Durham III of Middletown, KY and Robert M. and Roger L. Durham, both of Anchorage; a brother, Hugh M. Durham of Arlington, VA; and five grandchildren.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, 11403 Park Road, Anchorage, KY. Burial: Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road.
