Obituary - Mr. Cooper, Bracken County News
Mr. Cooper, the son of the late Alfred and Mary Cooper was born in Mason County on October 10, 1924. He was retired machinist who worked for General Electric in Cincinnati, OH for 35 years. Mr. Cooper was known for his love of basketball. He was a member of the 1943-44 Brooksville High School basketball team, which went undefeated in regular season. In 1944-45, he played for Adolph Rupp at the University of Kentucky and in 1948-49 played for the Nashville Volunteers semi-pro basketball team. In 1950, he coached the YMCA team of Kankakee, Ill. to the national title.
Survivors include his wife Izora Hinson Cooper, one daughter, Mrs. Cathy C. Free of Route 2, Brooksville, one son, Danny Cooper of the Willow Community, four grandchildren, Heather Free Brunley of Milford, Sr. Airman Gabriel Free of Mt. Home Air Force Base, ID. Stephanie Cooper and Clark Cooper of Willow: one greatgrandson, Cody Barton Lisle Brumley, two sisters, Mrs. Anna B. Yelton and Mrs. Eva Carpenter, both of Brooksville, four brothers, Leslie Cooper and Dale Cooper, both of Brooksville, Warren Cooper of Morehead and Elwood Cooper of Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Friday, march 17 at the Germantown Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Germantown Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Moore and Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville.
Pallbearers included Bart Brumley, Bill Free, Clark Cooper, Gabe Free, Larry Cooper, Steve Martin, Darren Cooper and Don Cooper.
